Penton Hook is Britain’s largest inland marina, situated within 80 acres and offers 575 berths. Situated next the River Thames, the picturesque site is a boat ride away from the vibrant town of Staines-on-Thames and Runnymede.

Facilities

The site hosts four first-class facility buildings, which include showers, toilets, and full disabled access. The marina also holds two pump out stations, and the Canal and River Trust have developed an interactive map to help you find facilities around the marina.

In addition to all the basics, such as laundry facilities and 24/7 storage units, the Marina has full Wi-Fi coverage.

History

Penton Hook Lock was opened in 1815 and was originally controlled by the City of London Corporation.

Since then, the lock has expanded hugely, and after being purchased by MDL Marinas in 1973, boasts a massive 575 berthing spaces and can hold vessels up to 30m in length.

Things to do within 10 minutes

Take a short boat trip up the Thames River to the vibrant town of Staines-upon-Thames, and explore the town centre and its pedestrianised shopping area that holds a range of shops, cafes, restaurants, and pubs.

Just round the corner is Thorpe Park. With over thirty rides, as well as a range of live events and other attractions, there is something for everyone!

Things to do within 30 minutes

Why not take a peaceful walk downstream to Runnymede, and see one England’s most significant historical sites? In 1215, King John signed the Magna Carta, making England more democratic. The town has become famous for its collection of memorials to the struggle for liberty: as well as the monument to the Magna Carta, the village also holds memorials to JFK and the Allied Air Forces of the Second World War!

Things to do within 60 minutes

On a good day, a 50-minute drive will take you right to the heart of London, where you can pass the time walking through the country’s bustling capital!

A slightly shorter drive takes you into the Surrey Hills area. Pack a picnic, park the car, turn off the devices and immerse yourself in this certified Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty!
