Facilities

Within the marina, berth holders have access to storage, toilets, showers and a launderette. Pontoons are accessible by a secure gate system, with staff living on site for additional security.

History

Although the village of Buckden dates back to the Domesday Book, the marina wasn’t built until Buckden Marina 1963, originally with 150 berths before expanding to 240 today.

Things to do within 10 minutes

The Lion at Buckden dates back to 1492 and is one of the oldest coaching inns in the UK. Hinchingbrooke Country Park is great for long walks with its wetlands, lakes, and café. Or head over to Grafham Water, England’s third-largest reservoir and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, for its bike trails and famed trout fishing.

Things to do within 30 minutes

Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy the orchids and fungi at Hayley Wood Nature Reserve, while golf lovers will delight in the plethora of nearby courses. For historic inspiration, Grade-II listed Houghton Mill has been a traditional working mill for over 1,000 years, or explore the mansion and Capability Brown gardens at Wimpole Estate. For families, Twinwoods Adventure Activity Centre will help tire out even the most energetic Waterlodgers, with its indoor surfing, climbing walls, simulated BASE jump tower and escape room – and if that all sounds too much, you can relax in the salt cave! For something of everything, the cathedral city of Peterborough, with its lido, Key Theatre, Nene Valley Railway, cinema and shopping, is just a 30-minute drive.

Things to do within 60 minutes

The rich cultural history of Cambridge is around 40 minutes’ away, offering everything from punting on the River Cam, historical tours of the University, shopping and dining. Or you could head for a day cheering on the horse at Newmarket Racecourse. Or head west to explore the Spencer family history at Althorp Estate or get some retail therapy at Rushden Lakes Sopping Centre.
