Sovereign Harbour is the largest composite marina complex in northern Europe and contains four linked harbours. Despite its impressive size, the hustle and bustle of urban living can be left behind here, whilst still having the genteel Victorian town of Eastbourne on your doorstep.

Facilities

A perfect base for water sports, Sovereign Harbour offers first-class facilities, including shower blocks, launderettes, lockers and The Waterfront, with its array of cafes, restaurants and shops. Sovereign is a locked marina and is monitored by 24-hour security. Free wi-fi is available for berth holders allowing connection for up to three devices.

History

Opened in 1993, Sovereign was run by developer Carillion until 2007 when Premier Marinas added it to their portfolio that already included Brighton, Chichester and Port Solent.

Things to do within 10 minutes

On the doorstep are the Harbour Reach Beaches which boast outstanding views along the coast. The annual Beach Life Music Festival held in July is a completely free two-day extravaganza of entertainment, food and sports. For history buffs, the Eastbourne Redoubt was built to keep Napoleon’s armies out of Britain.

Things to do within 30 minutes

Take in the views of the majestic Seven Sister cliffs at Seaford Head Nature Reserve or experience the fun of Knockhatch Adventure Park. If you’re looking for something to stimulate the brain, The Observatory Science Centre at Herstmonceux may be just the ticket.

Things to do within 60 minutes

The popular coastal hot spot of Brighton is just under an hour to the west of Sovereign Harbour. To the east, you can relive one of the most iconic moments of British history at the 1066 Battlefield and Abbey. Alternatively, head inland for some treasure hunting among the antique shops of Lewes, or brush up on your Tudor history at Anne of Cleves House, which formed part of her divorce settlement from Henry VIII.
